Summer Time is Prime Time for Family Golf

Willbrook Plantation Golf ClubNo one will argue the fact that the Myrtle Beach area’s number one summer attraction is the beach. It’s regarded as the top family beach in America. Shopping and dining are popular pastimes and the family amusement parks and water parks rank pretty highly as well. But don’t  overlook the growing popularity of summer golf. Last summer, between June and August, nearly a million rounds of golf were recorded on Myrtle Beach area courses.

It used to be that summer golf was an activity where dad slipped away in the early morning and got back around lunch time before he was missed. While that is still a popular strategy for many, there is a noticeable increase in the number of dads, moms and kids who are heading to the courses as a family. No place makes it easier to do so than Myrtle Beach.

During the busy summer months, more than 40 local courses offer special family golf programs, including free golf for accompanied juniors, a concept that was initiated in the mid-1990s by a handful of courses and fully embraced by others over the past 10 years. Among the biggest supporters of family golf are Myrtle Beach Prime Times and 10 Myrtle Beach area courses, including Long Bay Club, Myrtle Beach National (54 holes), Waterway Hills, Aberdeen and four courses in the Murrells Inlet and Pawleys Island area - Blackmoor, Litchfield Country Club, River Club at Litchfield and Willbrook Plantation.

Myrtle Beach Prime Times’ summer golf program offers free greens and cart fees for junior golfers ages 16 and under when accompanied by an adult golfer. Parents can also take advantage of very attractive summer golf packages, including nine-hole and 18-hole afternoon specials.

Needless to say, tee times on Myrtle Beach courses are in popular demand, so last-minute deals are hard to come by. The best times require early planning, but another option for those willing to wait is online at www.TeeUpTomorrow.com, where you can search for available tee times in real-time on many of the 100 Myrtle Beach area courses. Once you find the times that fit your schedule, book right then, online in real-time within 48 hours in advance.

It’s as simple as a six-inch putt. If you still have questions, pick up the phone and call the experts at Prime Times. Their tee time reservations staff is comprised of avid golfers who can answer your questions and assist with all aspects of your visit, including preferred tee times, accommodations, helpful tips on where to dine, golf instruction and more.

Willbrook Plantation Golf Club
designed by noted architect Dan Maples, is located along the South Strand near Pawleys Island. It sits upon the former site of two colonial plantations. Ancient oak and cypress trees stand as reminders of how long ago this area was first settled. Willbrook has evolved into one of the premier courses on the Grand Strand. Be sure to include it on your next visit.

Blackmoor Golf Club

built upon the former site of Longwood Plantation is the Myrtle Beach area’s only Gary Player signature design. Player’s philosophy that “golf should be fun” shines through on every hole. Designed to reward good shots and forgive the occasional stray shot, Blackmoor could provide one of your most memorable rounds.

demands accuracy and nerve. The A-1 Bent greens are consistently among the best on the Grand Strand, but they can be fast, requiring a soft touch. You’ll encounter one great hole after the next, with none more exciting and rewarding than the par-5 18th. With two brave carries over water, the green is reachable in two, providing an excellent chance for birdie or eagle.

Litchfield Country Club

built in the early ‘60s, is one of the oldest courses at the beach and provides a unique country club atmosphere. The course is a classic Willard Byrd layout that rewards accuracy over distance, with several tree-lined, dogleg par 4s that require well-placed tee shots.
