The Myrtle Beach area's number one summer attraction is the beach. Shopping and dining are popular pastimes, and the family amusement parks and water parks rank pretty high. But don't overlook the growing popularity of summer golf. Last summer, betwen June and August, nearly a million rounds of golf were recorded on Myrtle Beach area courses.
It used to be that summer golf was an activity where dad slipped away in the early morning and got back around lunch time before he was missed. While that is still a popular strategy for many, there is a noticeable increase in the number of dads, moms and kids who are heading to the courses as a family. No place makes it easier to do so than Myrtle Beach.
During the busy summer months, over forty local courses offer special family golf programs, including free golf for accompanied juniors. Among the biggest supporters of family golf are Myrtle Beach Prime Times and nine Myrtle Beach area courses, including Long Bay Club, Myrtle Beach National (72 holes), Waterway Hills, Aberdeen and three courses in the Pawleys Island area - Litchfield Country Club, River Club and Willbrook Plantation.
Myrtle Beach Prime Times' summer golf program offers free greens fee and cart for junior golfers age 16 and under when accompanied by an adult golfer. Parents can also take advantage of very attractive summer golf packages, including 9-hole and 18-hole afternoon specials. Club rentals are available at all nine Myrtle Beach National courses, including the latest equipment from TaylorMade. Junior clubs are available at no charge.
Vice President Jim Woodring remarks, "We recognize the importance of growing the game of golf and want to do help introduce youngsters to the game with their families. What better place to do that than Myrtle Beach? Our hope is that if they experience the joys of golf in Myrtle Beach as a child, they will return for many years to come with their family and friends to re-live those memories as adults."
This summer, Myrtle Beach Prime Times has added two new components to their family golf program. Junior golf clinics are available this summer at the Direct Approach Golf School, located at Willbrook Plantation in Pawleys Island, priced at $35 per day.
Direct Approach Golf School offers each student a personalized CD of their swing analysis session complete with improvement tips from their instructor. Murray Bros. CaddyShack has teamed up with Myrtle Beach Prime Times this summer to add even more incentive to take your kids to the golf course.
At the completion of your round at any of the nine Myrtle Beach Prime Times courses, each junior will receive a certificate for a free dinner. CaddyShack is a popular golf-themed restaurant located in Myrtle Beach's "Restaurant Row."
The restaurant is inspired by the popular movie "CaddyShack." They offer a diverse menu of burgers, steaks, seafood, salads, pizza and more.
