Each year, the Myrtle Beach Area Golf Course Owners Association (MBAGCOA) selects the Myrtle Beach area golf course that they deem to have demonstrated a level of character, quality and service that distinguishes them among the best. The prestigious title of "2007 Myrtle Beach Golf Course of the Year" was recently awarded to Wachesaw Plantation East, a Clyde Johnston design located in Murrells Inlet, making them eligible for the state and national "Golf Course of the Year" award to be announced later this year.

For the "Golf Course of the Year" award, the MBAGCOA judges and evaluates area courses on golf course conditions, quality of ownership and management, contributions to the community through donations and service and efforts to improve the growth of the game. Wachesaw Plantation East was selected for its strength in each of these areas.

In 2006, Wachesaw Plantation East helped raise more than $200,000 in charitable contributions by hosting events including the St. James High School Benefi t Tournament, the Horry County Police Department Golf Tournament, the WPDE-TV's Celebrity Sports Shootout to support local college scholarships, the "Welcome Home Charlie Company" to honor Myrtle Beach National Guard service men and women returning from Iraq, the S.C. State Firefi ghters Association event and the Women's Golf Boot Camp.

Wachesaw Plantation East also contributed to the growth of the game by hosting junior golf tournaments as well as featuring a year-round "Kids Play Free" program. As a member of Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday, the Clyde Johnston-design course hosted all fi ve of Golf Holiday's amateur golf tournaments during the year.

"We are honored to have been selected as the 2007 Myrtle Beach Golf Course of the Year," said Rob Mosser, Wachesaw Plantation East general manager. "We place a heavy emphasis on community involvement and customer service and this is a compliment to the hard work of the Wachesaw Plantation East staff."

"Wachesaw Plantation East is the epitome of what we consider a worthy Golf Course of the Year," said George Hilliard, Executive Director of the MBAGCOA. "They met and exceeded all of the criteria that we designate for the award and will represent the Myrtle Beach area well at the state and national levels."
